About Frec

Our mission is to help create enduring wealth. To do this, we don't promise shortcuts or magic strategies. We respect the realities of investing as it actually works, and challenge the long-standing assumption that returns and taxes belong in separate conversations. By building tax-aware investment tools once reserved for the ultra-wealthy, Frec empowers investors to hold onto more of what they earn.

In the last year, Frec has been growing exponentially – 50% QoQ growth with over $1B+ in customer assets. We raised our Series A with Greylock Partners and have an impressive list of other funds and angel investors backing our company. If you’re looking to join a fast-growing team with high potential, Frec could be the place for you. Learn more about Frec as a company at www.frec.com.

About the role

As a member of the Operations team, you'll own operational functions across Frec's broker-dealer and registered investment advisor that make Frec’s mission possible. We're customer-centric — every decision starts with how it benefits our customers. We're efficiency-seeking — we scale with accuracy while reducing risk. And we're team-focused — we succeed and face challenges together, with accountability and humility. If that resonates, join us at a pivotal time to help shape our systems, our structures, and Frec's future.

What you will do

You'll own, improve, and scale the core operational workflows that power Frec's broker-dealer and RIA. In every workflow, you'll automate, streamline, and eliminate manual work — we're building an operations function that scales with technology, not headcount.

  • Asset reconciliation — Own daily reconciliation of customer assets against our custodian (Apex), investigate and resolve breaks, and build automated solutions that eliminate them at the source.

  • Trading operations — Monitor algorithmic trading systems in real time, resolve rejections and escalations, and drive changes that improve execution quality and risk management.

  • Asset transfers — Oversee ACAT, ACH, and wire transfers end-to-end, resolving returns, rejections, and escalations, and redesign processes to reduce rejection rates and processing times.

  • Margin — Issue and resolve margin calls, monitor margin risk across Reg T and portfolio margin accounts, and help improve margin monitoring in our product and internal systems.

  • Tax operations — Resolve cost-basis and wash-sale escalations, and implement process improvements that catch these issues before they become escalations.

  • Portfolio risk & analysis — Monitor risk and run analysis across our direct index portfolios, and stand up new monitoring and exception-reporting processes.

  • Corporate actions — Resolve corporate action breaks and escalations, and partner with the team to implement permanent fixes.

Beyond core operations, you'll also:

  • Learn our data pipeline and technology stack, and use that knowledge to improve operational flows.

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on new product developments, marketing initiatives, and engineering projects.

  • Contribute to the compliance program — account-opening escalations, marketing reviews, and cybersecurity initiatives.

  • Assist with month-end closing and financial reporting (e.g., FOCUS reports and annual audited financial statements) for the broker-dealer and the RIA.

What you bring

  • FINRA Series 7 and 63/66 licenses (Series 24 strongly preferred; Series 57 and/or 27 a plus)

  • 4 + years of experience in brokerage and/or RIA operations, ideally at a technology-driven firm

  • A track record of improving processes, not just running them — you spot manual work and instinctively want to automate it

  • Advanced Excel proficiency; intermediate SQL preferred, and Python or other programming skills a plus

  • Experience with Apex and/or Sterling OMS a plus

  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to work cross-functionally across compliance, finance, product, and engineering

  • Comfort with the ambiguity and pace of an early-stage company — you're happy to own problems that don't have a playbook yet

Location

This role is ideally based in San Francisco or New York. Exceptional remote candidates are encouraged to apply. Compensation ranges are based on our San Francisco and New York markets and may vary for candidates in other locations.

What we offer

  • Base salary of $150,000–$180,000, determined by experience, skills, qualifications, and location

  • Meaningful equity — we want you to own a piece of what you're building

  • Fully paid health, vision, and dental insurance

  • 401(k)

  • Monthly wellness allowance for physical and mental health

  • Flexible PTO

  • Catered lunch every day in our SF and NYC offices
